The South Coast centre opened in 1990. In 2013, 14 programs operate from the South Coast centre and its outreach sites, ranging from universal place based programs such as HIPPY through to several early intervention  services, community development programs,  intensive services for families and children with complex needs, and TFC (out of home care).

The South Coast Centre has become an integral community service in the Illawarra, and is well respected in its home suburb, Warrawong. Barnardos provides EAPA vouchers to the community, and is a needle exchange service. The Centre is committed to delivering quality family support services to the Aboriginal community. These services are staffed by Aboriginal people.
