Corporate Domestic Violence awareness campaign

In 2022, Barnardos launched the Domestic and Family Violence research report which highlights the impact that DFV has on children. In continuation of this initiative, Barnardos is launching a national awareness campaign to increase awareness of the issue and normalise the conversation.

Domestic and Family Violence continues to be a pandemic and a national issue throughout Australia.

The numbers are staggering.

1 in 3 women

experience physical violence

1 in 4 children

are exposed to domestic violence

1 in 5 workers

experiencing family and domestic violence report the effects of the violence continues in the workplace in Australia

Paid family and domestic violence leave legislation came into effect in February this year. With the increase in technology-enabled coercive control, survivors are increasingly finding that the workplace is one of the few places where they can seek support and access Domestic Violence services.

DV is an issue for all of us, and increasingly so for organisations. Therefore, we are inviting organisations to join our national Corporate Domestic Violence awareness campaign and help us to start normalising the conversation around DV and its long-term impact on women and children.

This initiative is a series of collaborative activities and fundraising events across the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, from the 25th of November to the 10th of December. Association with the campaign provides employee engagement and/or customer-focused messaging supporting corporate CSR activities.

Get involved this Workplace Giving Month

Workplace Giving month is just around the corner – and setting up or relighting your existing program is easy! Check out our Employer how to guide for tips and suggestions on making your Workplace Giving program a great success!

What is Workplace Giving?

Good question! It is the opportunity to set up a regular, pre-tax donation to a charity every pay day.

It allows you to support more children in Barnardos programs directly from your payroll, plus you receive an immediate pre-tax benefit while the charity receives the full donation amount.

For example, if you donate $20 per pay cycle, it will only cost you $12.60* but Barnardos will receive the full $20.

There are many benefits to having a Workplace Giving program:

sass & bide x Barnardos campaign a huge success!

Last April marked the release of the limited-edition Barnardos x sass & bide ‘Kind Hearts’ sweater, with prints inspired by the beautiful drawings by the children from the Barnardos Yurungai Learning Centre.

This special collaboration with sass & bide was a huge success and the adult jumper even sold out in record time! (there are still some available in children’s sizes if you have FOMO). 100% of the profits go directly to funding Barnardos programs and services, helping more vulnerable Australian children and young people recover and thrive.

The campaign featured our very own Yurungai Program children and staff proudly wearing the sass & bide ‘Kind Hearts’ sweaters, along with top celebrities such as comedian Celeste Barber!

Christmas in July Appeal

Sadly, we’ve noticed that young people in our support programs are the ‘forgotten ones’ during our annual Barnardos Gifts for Kids appeal each year  where toys and gift cards are donated. These youth have gone through some serious issues that young people shouldn’t have to experience, from homelessness to struggling with mental health or addiction.

Christmas in July is an early Christmas call out for gift cards for the young people supported by Barnardos to lift their spirits and show them they matter.

Together with our gift partner Prezee, we’ve made donating quick and easy for you.
A simple gift card can bring immeasurable joy to these deserving young people.

So, what are you waiting for? Dust off those ugly Christmas sweaters and donate today. Or better yet, share this with your colleagues – we have posters and QR codes to help make your internal promotion seamless.

Exciting corporate opportunities for Reconciliation and NAIDOC week

We were so proud to have launched our STRETCH Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) 2023-2025 last month. This is an important journey for all of us. You can find more information about our RAP and read the current STRETCH RAP here

The current STRETCH is Barnardos third RAP. We’ve achieved so much but there’s so much more to do. The important relationships we have built will inform this work.

National Reconciliation Week’s theme this month is to “Be a Voice for Generations,” emphasizing the need to empower the youth to work towards reconciliation.

At Barnardos Australia, we are committed to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and their families in their journey towards healing, which aligns with this year’s theme.

Reconciliation is crucial for corporate organizations to acknowledge and address the historical injustices experienced by Indigenous Australians. We invite corporate entities to connect with us to understand our Reconciliation Action Plan journey, and how we can work together to support their reconciliation activities throughout the year and during the upcoming National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) week, from July 2 to July 9, 2023.

We would love to hear from you, whether your team would be interested in organising a fun day out with the children, exploring ways of contributing to our early intervention and prevention programs, extending an invitation for the children to experience a day in your workplace, or hosting a company NAIDOC celebration to highlight the significance of reconciliation.

Let us collaborate and work together towards a more inclusive and equitable future for all Australians!

Ideas for your company’s Mothers Day Celebration

Ideas for your company’s Mothers Day Celebration

Mother’s Day is only a couple of months away (14th May 2023), and it’s time to start thinking about how your company can celebrate the working mothers amongst your employees. Not only is it a great opportunity to show appreciation for the hard work and dedication of these women, but it’s also a chance to give back to the community.

Here are some ideas to get you started:

Team building event

Rally the troops for a Barnardos working bee or book a day out with the kids excursion both lovely activities in the lead up to Mothers Day.

A working bee involves a variety of tasks such as painting, gardening, and general maintenance at our Centre’s and facilities. It’s a great opportunity for your employees to work together as a team, get their hands dirty, and make a real difference in the lives of vulnerable children and families.

For most of us, childhood was the most carefree part of our lives, but for thousands of Aussie children, it can be the hardest. A ‘day out with the kids can provide these children with a special opportunity to alleviate the anxiety and stress of everyday challenges and enjoy some easy-going fun! For instance, trips can include a visit to the Zoo or Aquarium.

Donation drive

Organise a donation drive for the women supported by Barnardos and encourage employees to bring in items such as toiletries, clothing, and toys which can make a positive difference in the lives of these women and their families.

Fundraising event

Host a fundraising high tea or a raffle to raise funds for Barnardos’ Domestic Violence support programs. Encourage attendees to donate in honour of the working mothers in your company.

An activity for your industry

Why not get innovative and create your own activity that aligns with your product or engages your industry?

Sass & Bide

sass & bide celebrates Barnardos with an annual campaign and look out for the exciting 2023 launch, coming very soon! This year’s limited-edition sweater is launching on Tuesday 18th April, available both in store and online. Secure yours before they sell out!

By celebrating the working mothers in your company, you can show them how much you value their contributions, while also making a positive impact in the lives of those in need. So, start planning your Mother’s Day activities today, and make it a day to remember!

Contact our Corporate Engagement Manager, Annalise Wild on 02 9218 2420 or awild@barnardos.org.au to talk through the best activity for your Mother’s Day celebration or request the prospectus here.
