Thank you

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for your incredible support at our Horizons of Hope art show. It was an unforgettable evening filled with creativity, inspiration and joy. With over 40 donated pieces of art and over 170 people in attendance, the evening made a meaningful impact to the lives of children and young people facing homelessness. Thank you to our amazing artists, suppliers, volunteers and guests for making this night so special!

Thank you to our event supporters

Flowers Across Sydney provided the beautiful florals for our flower wall which meant every guest went home with their own bunch accompanied by a message of hope. The Giving Movement provided attendees with the opportunity to have exclusive early access and continue to support Barnardos by donating $4 from every item sold in their Australian stores.

Raising money for children in need

Through art and the dedication of our local community, we strive for a future where children reach adulthood with ambitions beyond simply finding a roof over their heads and food to eat.

All proceeds will go to Barnardos Australia’s safety and prevention programs. With a growing number of young people at risk of becoming homeless due to family violence and abuse, Barnardos is working towards a future where every young person is safe and secure.

Can’t make the show? All artworks will be available via our online auction site here so you can bid from anywhere in Australia. Together, we can turn creativity into a lifeline for those in need.

The Peter Pan committee -
80 years of tradition

The Peter Pan Committee is the main fund raising auxiliary of Barnardos and has raised many millions of dollars – funds which go directly to critical child welfare programs and services that help thousands of children and young people. The committee also contributes by raising public awareness and goodwill.

The committee was originally established in Sydney in 1936 to support the ‘Free Kindergarten’ in Union Street Paddington at a time when there was no government funding for kindergartens.  In 1974, when government funding for kindergartens was introduced, the Peter Pan Committee decided to direct its fundraising to the support of Barnardos Australia.

The statistics are chilling: more than 45,000 Australian children are in care – unable to live in the same house as their parents because it is  not safe for them.  Every day there are more than 145 substantiated reports of child abuse and neglect and one child dies every 15 days in Australia as a direct result of abuse.  Barnardos is committed to changing this.

Dating back to World War II, the Op Shop is run by the dedicated women of the Peter Pan Committee who have supported our work with vulnerable children and families for over 85 years. It has since become an iconic fundraising event held twice a year in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs.

The sale features designer pieces from brands such as Hermes, Burberry, Chanel, Camilla, sass & bide and Zimmermann, with all clothing, footwear and accessories donated to help raise much-needed funds for our programs and services.

A heartfelt thank you to all who donate to our Op Shop sale. From large designer brands to local Sydney women, your generous support ensures Barnardos can continue providing urgent care and essential services to those most vulnerable.

FAQs

There is paid on-street parking available on Oxford Street and the surrounding streets. Most parking within the Paddington area has a 2-hour limit.

Yes, we accept both.

Yes please! We reuse donated bags where we can, but we cannot guarantee we will have one for every customer. So, please bring a reusable bag where possible.

Anyone is welcome! However, due to the donors from the community and the brands we work with, the available items will be all women’s clothing. Previously, this sale was for women only, but we have made changes to ensure everyone is comfortable and welcomed.

This is difficult for us to answer as it is reliant on the members of the community who donate and what surplus brands have. Generally, the clothing ranges from size 6 – 16.

Yes. There is a communal changing room at the back of the venue, which will have seats and mirrors.

Unfortunately, there are no toilets available to attendees.
