Barnardos CEO joins sector leaders at Domestic Violence NSW conference

Barnardos CEO Dr Kate Alexander appeared as a panellist at the Domestic Violence NSW Conference, hosted by Stan Grant, where she discussed best practice approaches to support children and young people experiencing domestic and family violence.

Kate joined a distinguished panel of leaders from across the child protection space, including Fatima Abou-Abdallah from Muslim Women Australia, Mallory Siemsen from Youth Off the Streets, Grace Jennings from Relationships Australia, Joy Akl from SSI and domestic and family violence advocate Alyssa Jeffries.

This session focused on championing the voices and experiences of children through hopeful practice. Discussions highlighted reducing risk and increasing safety for children and young people, while recognising the important role of empowering mothers in their recovery and wellbeing. Practical insights were shared alongside discussions about emerging challenges, to ensure children are best supported, and responses remain grounded in lived experience.

Barnardos supports children and families experiencing domestic and family violence across our Child and Family Hubs and conferences such as this help us to share and learn from out sector, government and peak partners and continue to keep this critical topic on the national agenda.
