New birth Certificates to Recognise Adoption
Barnardos welcome the proposed government reforms announced today allowing adopted people to have both their birth and adopted families included on their birth certificate.
As the leading non-government provider of open adoption in NSW since 1985, Barnardos have long believed it is vital for all children adopted from out-of-home care to know who they are and where they come from through birth family connection.
This legislative reform represents a positive step for children and for adults who were adopted from out-of-home care in the past, to acknowledge their history and full identity as adopted people.
