Leave a lasting legacy

Barnardos Australia believes every child deserves a caring family and a stable home, where they can grow up safely and reach their full potential. Your legacy gift could have the power to change the life of a child who is struggling and provide them with a promising future.

Why do we need your help?

With the help of our supporters Barnardos Australia has been able to make a difference and improved the lives of 14,446 Australian children, young people and their families.

Below you can see where we have made a difference this last year alone:

However the sad fact still is that every two weeks one child dies as a direct result of abuse, and almost 45,000 Australian children are unable to live with their parents due to abuse and neglect. (*AIHW 2018 report)

That’s why we need you, every bequest gift – no matter how big or small – will help to ensure Barnardos has secure and stable funding for vital programs and services for children well into the future. By writing a few simple lines into your Will, you can help make sure children grow up in a safe and nurturing home, free from violence and suffering.

How to leave a gift

When deciding what to include in your Will, looking after your loved ones is your first priority. If you are considering leaving a gift to Barnardos, thank you. It may be a good idea to talk over your decision with people close to you to ensure they support and understand your reasons for choosing to support Barnardos in such a special way.

A ‘bequest’ is a gift of personal property by Will and the term is now associated with all kinds of gifts in Wills. These can come in many different forms such as:

The residue of your estate. The remainder of your estate after specific gifts have been disbursed.

A percentage. You could choose to leave a percentage of either the residue of your estate, or a percentage of your entire estate.

A pecuniary gift. A specific gift of cash.

An asset. This could be land, shares, art or other personal property.

A conditional bequest. In the unlikely event that your beneficiaries don’t survive you, you may wish to leave your estate to Barnardos Australia.

To make the process as simple as possible, we have provided the following suggested wording when including Barnardos Australia in your Will. We do however recommend that you consult legal advice to ensure your wishes are properly expressed.

Suggested wording for your Will:

I give .... (insert benefit, either residual gift, a percentage or specific gift amount) to Barnardos Australia
ABN 18 068 557 906.
