Impact of Philanthropy and Major Gifts
In 2018, Barnardos improved the lives of 14,049 children, young people and their families. Philanthropy and major gifts make a real difference to the programs and services we can deliver. Below you can see the impact your support has.
Helping Australia's most vulnerable children.
Barnardos early intervention support programs strengthen families to prevent child abuse and neglect so children and young people can remain safely at home and avoid entry into the child protection system. We also work intensively with families whose children have been removed by the courts to restore them safely home. When this is not possible we provide foster care, kinship care and open adoption to ensure that children find permanency and a true sense of belonging.
Your donation will help us break the cycle of disadvantage and keep children safe from abuse and neglect
Barnardos Indigenous Learning Centres
The Yalmambirra Indigenous Learning Centre, Wellington NSW and the Yurungai Learning Centre, Waterloo NSW are before and after school care centres for Indigenous children aged 5-12, who are exposed to violence, substance abuse or family breakdown. This targeted early educational program allows Barnardos to work on an ongoing basis with the same children to break the cycle of disadvantage, social exclusion and disengagement with the community.
Your donation will help close the education gap for Indigenous children aged 5-12.
Barnardos Children Family Centres
The nine Barnardos Children’s Family Centres offer support and practical assistance for families and communities facing issues such as violence, poverty, mental illness and homelessness. Our aim is to keep children safe from abuse and neglect.
Your donation will provide support to families, helping to preserve the living situations of disadvantaged children and prevent them from being placed in foster care.
Barnardos Youth at-risk Programs
Barnardos aims to empower youth at risk to make positive choices about their future.
Government funding gives us the basics. Your donation allows Barnardos case-workers to be out on the streets at 2am in the most disadvantaged areas, where many welfare services have not been able to meet the needs of young people.
Beyond Barbed Wire
Beyond Barbed Wire is a mentoring program which helps mothers in the Wellington Correctional Centre in central NSW stay connected to their children while incarcerated, and support mothers when they are released. An independent economic evaluation of the Beyond Barbed Wire program by the Western Research Institute (WRI) confirmed that it reduces re-offending amongst the women who engage in the program.
Your donation will give a mother and her children a second chance in life. We believe that everybody deserves that chance.
