Scott's story

At just 3 months old Scott was placed with compassionate foster carer Barb who he now knows as mum. As Scott says, "it was life-changing".

“What I’ve learnt from Scott is to never give up, whatever life throws your way.” – Barb

Meet Scott and Barb

Scott went through more in the first 3 months of his life than most of us will in a lifetime.

Sadly, as is the case for far too many Australian children, Scott was unable to live safely at home with his birth parents. “I had cancer and my birth family did bad stuff to me,” Scott says.

Scott’s life changed forever when he was placed with compassionate foster carer Barb.
“I had a phone call that a baby needed some care and it didn’t take long, about 20 minutes later Scotty arrived here, and he’s been here ever since.”

“I think I’m going good. I just keep trying and do one thing at a time,” says Scott.

With a tailored and holistic approach to care, children like Scott can begin their journey to recovery and go on to live happy and meaningful lives.

“What I’ve learnt from Scott is to never give up,” a proud Barb tells us. “He will always give it a go, even if it’s hard sometimes for him, he has achieved a lot. He is doing an apprenticeship, driving a car – he’s doing really well!”

With your help more children like Scott can get the support they need to recover and thrive.

WHAT WE SEE

We see beyond the sleepover in cars and understand the underlying issues.

After escaping family violence, a parent and their child have nowhere safe to stay and are
currently waiting for refuge accommodation.
