Barnardos Australia is proud to announce that our CEO, Dr Kate Alexander, has been appointed to the new Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Advisory Council established by the Australian Government.
The Council brings together experts from across the country to provide strategic advice and guidance on the effectiveness of the National Plan to End Violence Against Women and Children 2022-2032.
The National Plan focuses on four main areas to end domestic and family violence: prevention, early intervention, response, and recovery and healing.
This appointment provides Barnardos with the opportunity to ensure children’s experiences and needs are central to Australia’s responses and policy discussions and supports Barnardos vision: Safe children. Supported families. Hopeful futures.
Drawing on more than 30 years of experience as a social worker, supporting children and families living with, and recovering from, domestic, family and sexual violence, Kate will contribute expertise that helps to shape policies and strategies to achieve the best possible outcomes for children, young people, and families.
Kate is looking forward to working alongside Minister for Social Services, Tanya Plibersek and fellow Council members to build a safer future for children and families and welcomes the opportunity to be a part of the national conversation.
