Teenagers and Young Adults Social Scene (T&YASS)

T&YASS is a social group that meets each Saturday of the school term to provide recreational activities to young people aged between 13 and 24 years who have a disability. Two young people with a disability

Trained disability support workers ensure that the activities are appropriate with regard to the developmental needs of the young people.

The objective of the program stems from understanding that families of children with a disability are under increased amounts of stress, whether it be financial, emotional, social or behavioural and that young people are often socially isolated.

In order to prevent this stress from reaching critical levels, the program also offers respite care with the long-term goal of preventing family breakdown. Respite care can take the form of regular weekend or week-long stays in the community. In addition, Parent Support Groups are organised on a monthly basis.

T&YASS aims to offer individual and appropriate activities with young people monitored and assisted by trained volunteer peer supporters.
