Queanbeyan Homework club

The Homework Club in Queanbeyan is a dynamic after-school program running four afternoons a week, supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in K-6 from local primary schools. The program focuses on numeracy, literacy, and cultural awareness, fostering a fun and inclusive environment for academic growth.

Led by a full-time Project Officer and casual staff, it promotes wellbeing, inclusion, and positive identity. Local Aboriginal community members are encouraged to participate, making it a supportive space.

The program builds confidence, connections, and success for all participants.

Bundaleer Community Centre

Nestled on the Bundaleer public housing estate in Warrawong, the Bundaleer Community Centre plays a vital role in supporting local families. Each week, children and young people gather for a variety of programs designed to nurture their growth and well-being.

On Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, the Brekkie Connect program offers a warm, welcoming space where kids aged 5-14 enjoy nutritious food before school. The Kids Connect program on Tuesday afternoons creates opportunities for kids aged 5-12 to form friendships and explore their culture.

Wednesdays are busy with the Kids Time Playgroup, where children learn through play, while the Food Hub ensures families have access to fresh, free food. Together, these programs help build a connected, supportive community.

Auburn Early Learning Centre

Auburn Early Learning Centre is a nurturing environment for 50 children aged 2-5, offering care from 7am-6pm, Monday to Friday. The Centre features three playrooms where kids engage in a play-based curriculum aligned with the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), promoting a strong sense of identity, well-being, and social development.

Children explore art, construction, science, and outdoor play, learning at their own pace. Staff support this with open-ended questions and problem-solving opportunities to foster confident and engaged learners. The preschool room offers a school readiness program to develop social and cognitive skills, helping children transition smoothly to primary school.

Yurungai Learning Centre

The Yurungai Centre at The Factory Community Centre in Waterloo offers a supportive after-school program for children aged 5-12, with a focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander kids from Redfern and Waterloo. Open weekdays from 3–6pm, the Centre provides tutoring, homework help, social skills training, and free school transport.

Children engage in cultural activities, creative arts, sports, and life skills, boosting confidence and self-esteem. Celebrations like NAIDOC Week and Reconciliation Week foster pride and connection to culture, helping break the cycle of disadvantage and empowering kids for a bright future.
