We believe in transparency

Tuesday 25 October 2011
Barnardos Australia fully supports the development of the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profits Commission (ACNC). We see this as a way of ensuring transparent accountability in the NFP sector and introducing a standard way of reporting.

Currently, it is up to individual charities to determine how fundraising costs are calculated, which has led to differences in accounting practices in the sector. Our calculated percentage spend on fundraising includes all direct and indirect costs of fundraising including a component of the organisation’s administration costs and items like rent, electricity, telephones.

Barnardos Australia uses our non-government funds to enhance and support our high quality services to the most disadvantaged children and young people in Australia. Therefore, we make sure that we are completely open and accurate in our reporting. We make sure every cent is accounted for. And we believe donors should know where their money goes.

Our Annual Financial Report is lodged with the Australian Securities & Investment Commission and it is available to the public.

You can download a copy of last year’s  Annual Financial Report  here.

The 2010-2011 Annual Financial Report will be posted online on 30 Nov 2011, the date of our Annual General Meeting.

If you would like to know anything more about Barnardos Australia and our reporting practices, please call Chelsea Miller, PR & Communications Manager, Barnardos Australia, on 9218 2344 or email cmiller@barnardos.org.au
