Post release options

The Post Release Options Program was devised to assist young offenders who are nearing the end of a period of detention and may need support and assistance in re-entering their communities. Funded by the NSW Department of Juvenile Justice, Post Release Options provides a mediation service between families and young people.
Young offenders who have a history of juvenile detention may often need extra support and training in job and literacy skills. They may also lack a social support structure having “burned their bridges” with friends, family and community organisations. They will be at risk of unemployment and homelessness and may enter the cycle of re-offending.
The Post Release Options Program aims to mediate between adolescents and their families to develop social networks and to re-integrate them into their communities. This is achieved by reducing isolation and promoting independence, self-esteem and problem-solving skills.
