Kids Time - kids of the Illawarra developing with support

Kids Time is a play group for parents and their children under five years, based only at Barnardos South Coast Childrens Family Centre. The program is open three days a week for two hours to all local parents who are having difficulties in their parenting.

Facilitated by a Barnardos staff member, the group is conducted by parents based around children’s developmental needs and interests. Play equipment and nutritious snacks are provided.

The playgroup also assists parents under stress by introducing them to mutual support networks and important parenting skills such as developmental play.

Women’s drop-in centre

This weekly drop-in centre for women and children is based at Barnardos Penrith Children's Family Centre. It has the objective of providing information, referral and advice to clients with the aim of increasing their awareness of local services available to them, breaking down isolation and increasing their self-esteem.

Transport is provided for those who have difficulties in this area, and childcare for pre-schoolers gives mothers a break as they receive help and discuss issues such as stress management, parenting, relaxation, grief and loss issues and child development.
